Coasters - Ink
This quick series of ink drawings follows my most precious artistic process. I find the spot in my mind that releases control while retaining presence in the activity. One might say that I let the somatic intelligence in my body guide the outpouring of what it is that desires to be seen into its tangible expression. With as little interference from the weight of the analytical mind, certain shapes start repeating as they are recognized, producing a style unique to the moment and the nature of the medium.
I ended up leaving these all at my friend Krista's house. I wish I could have sealed them, they probably all have coffee stains on them now. I took pictures beforehand so that's what you see and I actually liked a couple of them enough to expand from their original 2.5x2.5 inch squares to 3x3 FOOT squares. I assembled cedar boards to burn the new versions (by hand). Building a larger iteration from the original inspiration has proven quite satisfying.
